Photoessay #1013 - Japan and Paper Clips

I believe these two topics relate mainly because they are part of my life this hour.

Tomorrow we leave for our trip to Japan. Eeek! Eeek! It will be fine, I have my stuff in the suitcase, Ilana will be here, the dog will be taken care of. We will be well taken care of by Natsuko and Nobuko. We will see Yamagata City, Kyoto, Tokyo and points in between. But Japan is so far away and so different....what an experience!

Readers, you will hear about it. I think I will have internet access at various points but just not sure.

Other hot news...I'm happy to report that Denise and I took Lee out to do some letterboxing. This might be her first fun excursion since since a family tragedy six weeks ago or so. It was fun, Lee had fun. Beautiful weather, we found 2 out of 3 boxes around the Northgate area.

And apparently a crisis has developed at our local university. The student assistant got a little off-base when ordering paper clips. He thought he was ordering 1000 paper clips but instead ordered 10,000 paper clips. Yup, engineering. Consulting with the supplier, they decided it would cost too much to send back the extra 9K paper clips so just keep them.

Which meant that they had wayyyy too many paper clips. A paper clip extravaganza. What to do?

However, given our present usage of paperclips in the department, this
supply would last us 20-25 years. So, if you would like some paperclips,
please stop by the front office and we will be happen to give you as many
as you like. After staff and faculty have had their fill, the same offer
will be extended to students, and then to other departments. Please
strongly consider adopting some paperclips; we do not have the budget to
feed them, and any that do not find a home will have to be put down. This
would make Stanley the Stapler very sad!

Ilana asked if they could use them at the government agency where she works. But they cannot accept gifts. So no help there....

Note: I do not know if the aforementioned paper clips are fancy colored ones like the picture,
