Photoessay #989 - Ranch 99 Market

We're planning a 'shabu shabu' japanese style dinner at the Thorsons tomorrow night. Natsuko and I went to the large Ranch 99 Market nearby. The converted an old KMart which gives an idea of the size. Which doesn't sound like the name of a huge supermarket filled with Asian groceries but....

Natsuko was stunned by the amount of Japanese food available. "I would not have to bring any food from Japan", she said, "I can just buy it here!" The large fish tanks full of live lobsters, crabs and other fish really caught her eye. "Wow!" she exclaimed. "Nothing like this in Iowa" She visited Iowa for a year in high school in a town so small "There are no stop lights in the entire county!"

Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me to capture the scope. But I did take a picture of some of the groceries when we got home.

Also went to Edmonds to look at the beach and the mountains on a sunny early spring day.

The bad news is that Ilana was not accepted to Univ of Washington library school (Why NOT??? She is a very strong candidate!!! Just ask mom!!!)
The good news is that Ilana has been accepted at the University of Michigan library school and is on her way to "Michigan Days" as we speak. Saturday, Sunday, Monday program for accepted students. University of Michigan is no slouch, for sure. I just wish that they didn't have such a HUGE out of state fee. Oh well, my grandparents would have approved. My father would have been impressed actually. It can happen, I know it can happen.
