Photoessay #978 - Some comfort

Today's picture features the view of Lake Washington from my friend's deck. She sent it to me to contribute to a Lake Forest Park daily photo log some years ago.

This family endured a terrible tragedy this past weekend. Their 23 year old daughter unexpectedly passed away. They're not real sure what happened but, in the end, it does not matter. You can't turn back the clock. This daughter had been doing well on her own, had seriously returned to school to her parent's delight and spent time with her family often.

So, I felt it to be an honor when they asked me to come by this afternoon. I made some cookies (outmeal raisin, they looked real weird, but tasted good). I spent several hours with them, their sun, another friend who had lost a child sitting at the kitchen table (with similar view). Quietly talking and listening and picking at the cookies. The family has done a lot for the community and will enjoy strong support. They are just starting down this painful road of an out-order-death. No death in a family is easy, but the death of your child is devastating.

They need support from their friends over the long term not just this week. But I am so fond of this family, I value their friendship and trust.
