Photoessay #955 - Wild Turkeys


Dennis and I went on an excursion today; sometimes he likes just 'to get out of town'. As we crossed the Skagit river, I speculated that he might be ready for one of those 'Sandy designed road trip vacations" "Yes!" he said with enthusiasm. Sometimes, I have us going to out of the way places and staying at internet-selected places which often surprise us. It always turns out, though.

He wanted to see the town of Concrete up on Hwy 20. Specifically, we checked out Ovenells Inn outside of Concrete which is a working farm/B&B. Their big promotion for the spring is

During the next couple of months treat yourself to the amazing sight of the birth of 85 new baby calves

As we drove in, there were two sentinel horses who eyed us closely. Amos and Clyde, I think, they definitely were on surviellance.

So we stopped by, inquired, were welcomed in by the proprietor who showed us around, seemed very comfortable. Showed us a map how to get to the cabins on another part of the property down by the river. "Have you seen the wild turkeys?" she asked "they're always around here somewhere being a nuisance" Sure enough, they were right outside.

I'm sure that this group is just waiting for the handout.

Nice trip if you like riding around the foothills of the north Cascades....
