We celebrated Dennis' birthday yesterday. We went to a local Chinese restaurant (mmmm, sizzling rice soup) with Danny, Susanna and Ilana. Here he opens the present from Danny, a dvd containing the early Simpsons episodes. I don't know why he has so many Victoria's Secret gift bags.
Then, on to the main event. Shorecrest PTA hosted an event put on my SAMA, Science and Management of Addiction, a local well-funded group who does a lot of drug abuse education. Danny and I served on the panel up front. Those lights are BRIGHT in your eyes. I think the asst principal was worried as she didn't know me and certainly didn't know Danny. I understand her concern, a lot of inappropriate directions exist.
Margaret and Curtis came from Parent Group to hand out brochures. I know they expected at least 100; only 40 showed. Disappointing but maybe the right people came? SAMA was mostly talk, not much action. Another counselor spoke effectively plus the drug and alcohol counselor from Shorecrest. I certainly put in my two cents but Danny carried the show. He's talented and articulate, comfortable in front of an audience. Has vivid stories to tell and he KNEW Shorecrest even though he's quite a number of years out. The panel was supposed to last 30 minutes but they let it go an extra 45 minutes.
Dinner and a show!
