Photoessay #839 - Heron

This post deserves a real photo. I will try to get one soon.

The last few days I have not had a car as we havesome preventive maintenance done on our new van. Not a big deal. But Teddy has moved into his crafty adolescence phase. Ideas occur to him.

Such as...Many good smelling things are on the kitchen counter and, no problem, I can just jump up there and get whatever I want. In fact, I can grab the whole leftover roast and make off with it. Except I run right into Mom who pries it out of my jaws. Note to self: get better exit plan.

Plus get things out of people's rooms and do a good job chewing them up.

And why didn't I notice this great garbage can before?

I can't take him to the dog park in the middle of the afternoon these last few days. The evening shift is getting pretty dark. Last night was good with the german shepherd puppy Tony, the floppey eared boxer Tara and Teddy have a great ol' time wrestling with Lobo, the young german shepherd with a pedigree who looks straight out of some Aryan propaganda film. But Lobo is a wimp and spends most of the time on his back. Lobo will figure it out one of these days.

Where was I going with this? Longer walks. Teddy and I have been going all the way down the next street. At the end is an extension to a backyard with a big water feature, a pond, that somebody has lovingly built on the creek. With landscaping and carp and a fountain. Probably some son-in-law inherited the care of this place with beautiful plantings and landscaping. It's covered with a heavy net..over the whole thing. Been there as long as we've lived there.

The last two days, a large heron has been hanging out on the netting. Ah, he would like to have some of those nice big golden carp for lunch. He hasn't given up yet, I saw him there again. Looked just like this picture
