Photoessay #831 - Moving Giraffes

Yesterday, we walked along the edge of the African Savannah in mid-afternoon, near the end of our zoo trip. The main Savannah area is on the right of the path; the giraffe homes (big tall barns) on the left.

Lucky for us, feeding time for the giraffes. But the rain pelted down and the giraffes galloped too and fro in their enclosure before the keepers fed them. Back and forth, huge animals. The head keeper decided they were too agitated and they should return to the barn. The zookeepers executed a complicated procedure fencing a corridor for the giraffes to cross the path back to their barns. Us bystanders had to back up, to accommodate the move. When they finished setting up the fences, they released the giraffes and they trotted back across the path. Notice that no people are in the part where the giraffes walk. Impressive animals!

Just some drama, how many times do you get to move giraffes?
