Photoessay #824 - My peer group

OK, I admit it, for the last month or so, I go to the Mountlake Terrace Dog Park every evening. It's six minutes away, parking is always easy. Only a very few times, has it been empty and somebody is sure to arrive very soon.

It's my summer hangout, woody, quiet, lots of dogs, free. What else would you like? The folks are dog geeks, they only talk about their dogs. This evening, I will go at 7pm and, I hope, Dennis will come to pick him up and I will walk across the parking lot to the swim pool for my aerobics class. Nice deal?

Hard to take pictures though because the lag on the shutter on my camera is too long, you get pictures of what was happening a few seconds ago, but not now. It's woody, there's some benches. Teddy (8 month old male dog) loves it. He's there for the people (he greets everybody) and the wrestling. Some come for the running, some for the squirrels, some like to police the group making sure nobody does anything untoward.

Shot shows a typical group. Sadie (pitt/Rhodesian Ridgeback) mis is in the center, she likes to tustle a bit. I spend a lot of time defensively saying (He's NOT a Pitt!) but who knows. He likes to mix it up hard with Tara, a boxer. But he plays gently with the smaller puppies, he lets them climb all over him. Tony, a 4 month old Shepherd has been there the last few days. Tony likes to knock over all the water dishes he can find. He doesn't really mean to, he just likes to interact with the water in an active way, his tougue, his whole face, his paw, his other paw, his whole self and, before you know it, the water bowl is upended and Tony is soaked. He then rolls in the bark and dust, so he's all covered, so goofy. His owner says that he brings two sets of water jugs, one to give the other dogs something to drink and the other to fill up everything when he leaves to compensate for the Tony damage.

No water at the dog park. A community group is trying to raise money to get a water spigot in. For right now, people bring jugs of water and fill up the dishes in the dog park.

My peer group for this summer....I'm habitual. The nights are getting shorter, what will we do in the winter? Sit there in the pitch dark and rain?
