Photoessay #819 - Spider medicine

Alex is right....this is a sign

I believe in signs; things appear in your life which are meant to be followed. You need to reflect on them, to know what they're saying to you.

I had to change my appt because of a work conflict taking my job in a whole new direction. But I managed to sneak in there right afterward. During the treatment (cranio-sacral therapy), we had opened up a sliding door in the room because the room was so warm.

A short while later, she said, "there's a spider crawling right here on the pillow, let me move her" Spiders don't bother me particularly. She picked her up and deposited her outside. She mentioned that one of her other patients who was rather 'woo woo' would say that the spider's appearance would have significance. In Native American legends, the spider (or the spider woman) represents creativity.

I came home and looked up spiders from an alternative medicine website

Spider Medicine represents creativity. Its 8 legs represent the 4 winds of change and the 4 directions on the medicine wheel. Its body is in the shape of an 8, which represents infinite possibilities. "Spider people" must look beyond the web of illusion of the physical world and look beyond the horizon to other dimensions.

I'm taking this as a sign, especially in regards to my new job duties. Despite (always) uncertain economic times, I cannot sacrifice too much time on mundane wastes of time. In comparison, this blog's high on my list of creative activities. Every day, something in my life presents a story to tell. From the past, or the present, even the future. These stories show up everywhere for me and for everybody else.

I think I will investigate the 4 winds of change and the 4 directions on the medicine wheel.

I will accept the challenge of the spider woman who showed up on my pillow today. I will not forget it.
