Photoessay #481 - Fourth of July story
My friend Lori invited us over for a party on July 4. I already used a silhouette picture of the sunset off their deck. But we also sat out on the deck chatting as it got darker. Lori and I were sitting in the dark, quietly, talking. Those times that you just never take, as you bustle around doing all those things that we all do. That I'm always doing as I'm supposed to be working, packing for the trip, invoicing, walking the dog, omg it's already after 2pm, etc
Lori shared, as we sat together in the dark overlooking the Sound.
I remember that on July 3rd, my parents would attend what was called a progressive dinner. Each family would prepare one part of the meal and they would go from house to house. It was a big deal, this dinner, every year they did it.
And it's the only time that I ever remember my parents ever being hung over.
But on July 4, real early we would pack up a big picnic and we would go to this big park (Sherman Park in Milwaukee) and we would spend all day in this park. My parents would be out cold, just laying there. But, us kids, along with our friends we would get to stay at this park all day, until the fireworks. We would swim in the lake, even again and again if we wanted. Lots to do! We brought plenty of food and we just hung out in the park. I remember sitting with my friends singing Bob Dylan songs and playing the guitar. We would wait until dark, my parents would wake up and we would watch the fireworks in the dark.
It was one of my favorite days on the year.
PS - Going to Indiana for four days so blog posts will be unreliable
