Photoessay #729 - Josh Emery

One of Susanna's teammates on the U Oregon softball team lost her stepdad in the last week. Died suddenly, I don't know why. Shocking. Tragic.

Here's a picture from May 2008. Senior Day at University of Oregon. Not the best picture of the player, sorry Jo. But the best picture of her stepdad Josh. He's holding the flowers, Jo's mom is between them

Senior Day is always happy and sad. An air of celebration but always the knowledge that this is your last home game on Howe Field. Your family stands with you on the field and your accomplishments are read out. I believe that's Jo's grandparents off to the left and her dad on the right.

But Josh, I met him a few times over the years. He came to visit and watch some games. Kate came more often. They lived in San Diego. They hosted a dinner when the Oregon team played in San Diego though we never went on that particular trip. But, look at him, he looks so healthy. Youthful and strong. Josh and Kate look so happy and proud.

How could this happen? Senseless. Life is short, you just never never know.

thank you for sharing the nice photo of Josh - I am a college friend - hadn't seen him in over 10years - he still looks great. yes, it is tragic - I knew him as a good, kind man. I have been trying to find anything online about him and your blog popped up. Apparently there are services this Friday in CA.

I am a friend of Josh's from grammar and high school. Do you know what paper we can access for his obituary? My prayers are with his family...

Just found out that Josh Emery passed in June 2009. Today is Thursday, May 13, 2010 almost a year since his death. I am nothing less than heartbroken and shocked. I was a huge fan of Josh back in High School and a good friend to his younger brother and Josh's best friend, Jeff. What a stud. A fabulous athlete, great student, hard worker and gracious friend... I haven't seen Josh in over 35 years and in this picture, he looks exactly as I remember him. Strong, Upbeat and a Smile that could light up a room... and how proud he looks to be with his stepdaughter, who must be a fabulous athlete... which I know made Josh so very proud... The "Emery Brothers" from Chatham, New Jersey. Inseparable! How does the old saying go... "Girls wanted to be with them" and "Boys wanted to be them"... and that laugh... I can close my eyes and see and hear him now, bigger than life, with that ability to laugh and talk at the same time. My thoughts and prayer go out to my long lost buddy Jeff and to Josh's parents. To Josh's family... I am so sorry for your loss. Never forget that you were blessed to have had Josh in your lives, no matter how brief. For a time, he was yours...

I was a friend of Josh's in High School. He was a great athlete and a great friend. I fondly remember Josh & Jeff Emery going down to play basketball at the outdoor courts in Chatham, NJ. Josh was All County in Football and I believe he was Captain of the St. Lawrence University Football team which was undefeated his senior year. He was voted the most handsome in the 1973 Chatham High School yearbook, but he was unassuming and down to Earth. I am deeply saddened that he passed away so soon.
