Beautiful weather in Eugene today. We got up and fixed our fruit, headed over to our very own place along University Street around 8:30 am. Soon the Re family arrived and they knew what they were doing. The E family too. Before you knew it, the tailgate was set up, big pans and serving pieces. Big honey baked ham which we diced up. 10 dozen eggs, whole bunch of french toast, fruit pastries, juice, tables. No need for a shelter. Soon the team filtered in for the free breakfast and the coaches too. The grounds supervisor brought his whole crew and everybody else who came by.
Great party
Though I can see that this is very related to camping.
We intended to go to the track meet no matter what to watch Becky in the masters race. How to get in? easy! Becky came by and she had two season passes and a few single tickets. Great! We took the season passes (which we returned later) and went to the meet. Track Town USA, that's Eugene, in Historic Hayward Field. Prefontaine and all that. Lots of fans streaming in to the dual meet, UCLA vs the Men of Oregon. Watched the race and made our way back to the softball field.
Got in free as part of Hannah's list. Watched game, Ducks lose. Can't hit UCLA pitching. Whitney Baker was good but Megan Langenfeld was lights out. Alternatively, UCLA could hit Oregon's pitching just fine and there you go. Infield is young. In recent years, Oregon was known for their excellent infield.
By this time it's 3:30 and we've been outside for 7 hours. Go back and rest, pick up Hannah and have some dinner.
Then, we went letterboxing in the evening! A bonus! Found one near the blood bank near Civic Stadium, one on a downtown street corner, one in Alton Banker Park in a stump near Autzen Stadium. It was in a dark pretty yucky hole in a stump.
Evening winds up with the obligatory Prince Puckler's ice cream. I've not eaten that kind of stuff for quite a while but the mini-sundae tasted SO good. Small custom ice cream shop near the Law School. The Obamas stopped in last spring. Always crowded in the evening. As we went out, the man holding the door looked real familiar. Pat Kilkenny, Athletic Director. Everything so accessible in Eugene.
