Photoessay #672 - Some shots from the tailgate

Really it's more related to camping/outdoor cooking.

The first shot shows the tailgate a bit earlier. The players are eating and socializing. Coach J (associate head coach) is in the center facing the camera. Mr. E is working french toast on his grill. The big pans are empty but there's a platter of diced ham which is soon to join some scrambled eggs. My fruit is on the tables on the left. Again facing towards Mac Court. We've taken the parking spaces and we've reached the point where we don't feed the meters. The meter guys came by and gave us a pass as we look official. Yes, that's a graveyard (Pioneer Cemetary) in the background.

Becky Sisley likes to tell stories when she was head coach, in the seventies, they had to have their practice right next to Pioneer Cemetary and there were rules about balls going in there. We walked through there doing the letterboxing and the most recent burial was 1971, most were a bunch earlier.

The second shot is later and facing the other way. Coach A (head coach) chats with Grant who has returned from turkey hunting. Along with some other dads. Dressed like a tree, his daughter Lovena mentions. But the action part of the shot are the players dressed in blue on the far right. The UCLA team has just gotten off of the bus and they will walk as a group down the sidewalk past our tailgate in just a few minutes. It gives the Ducks just a little bit more community support to have this great tailgate going.

They could stop and have a bit if they wanted. I remember last year, I knew a UCLA player's parents and the dad was in poor health. We were doing burgers, etc and the mom asked me if dad could have a burger as he couldn't eat anything from the concession. Sure! A lot of these Pac 10 players and parents know each other.

Great weather in Eugene. These are a lot of fun, that's why we traveled 300 miles.

PS a tremendous advantage to these weekend trips to Eugene. You pack your stained old Oregon Softball t-shirts. Got your green one, yellow one and gray one? Throw in an extra stained old Oregon Ducks sweatshirt and you're good to go! No other apparel (other than rain stuff) needed
