Dennis and I enjoyed our day together going down to Puyallup and participating in a recruiting information meeting for the greater Washington LadyHawks teams. Puyallup, however, is a long way away (51 miles, according to Dennis) and many different highways. The last part goes through Globalization Puyallup better known as Meridian Ave, miles long stretch of nationally branded businesses. Awful assortment of traffic, parking lots and neon lights. We really wanted to avoid that; this time, I suggested an alternate route.
Now Dennis is a good sport about my alternate routes which can work really well or end us up in a middle of a cow pasture (in Wyoming) or, recently, a completely unrelated remote subdivision in Covington (thanks to a wrong address from Angel) or worse. Completely lost going the wrong way tends to be my approach. But this time we went down Enchanted Parkway through Milton and, get this, we avoided Meridian both up and back! In the middle of the xmas shopping runs! Yes!
Maybe I'll post some shots from the meeting which also featured Eve Gaw, former asst coach at Univ of Washington there giving pitching lessons and Adrian Ochoa a former D2 coach now helping out coaching the teams. I had never met Coach Ochoa and I was impressed with his talk. On reflection, talking about some of the sneaky recruiting things that coaches do might have been TMI for this group of players and parents most just entering the recruiting process. They will find out soon enough!
But afterwards, Dennis and I returned to a place we enjoyed in the past, the coffee shop at Thunn Field (Pierce County Airport) right nearby. He speculates that his family likely spent time right there in the past. Good food too.
And you can see what was really happening down around Pierce County today. The mountain is OUT!! (meaning, of course, Mt. Rainier). This picture taken from the sleepy parking lot at Thunn Field with the mountain sharing the sky with a plane taking off.
