All of these people came to our Thanksgiving dinner today. Nineteen people. All in my living room, kitchen, dining room. I live in a conventional 70s split entry so, if you know about that sort of house, there's not a ton of room. Pretty wild when everybody arrived. And I KNEW that this group is generally very active in the kitchen and nobody NOBODY was going to not be part of the cooking and serving. And so it was like that. Lots of lots of busy busy people in the small space (myself included) calling out and working to get their dishes on. Shortage of spoons, shortage of bowls. But everything did get on the table; we had lots and lots of dishes. Most popular Emily's green salad at the 'kids' table and Jerry's signature pumpkin cheesecake.
Basically 4 families total plus my granddaughter. Group full of young adults so I keep thinking that it's not stable and, indeed, eventually it won't as all these young people establish their own homes. But today they are all here.
Apparently there is a tradition established by Ilana that, after we eat, we all have to listen and sing along with that Thanksgiving ditty Arlo Guthries "Alice's Restaurant" which dates from my college years but is now embraced by my kids. Who knew?
I insisted on a group picture right when everybody arrived. Isn't it peculiar that I almost like the 'act funny' version better? Good looking group!
