Photoessay #493 - Waiting to perform

The Shorecrest Highland Dancers wait to walk onto the football field and perform at halftime during the Homecoming Game on Friday night at Shoreline Stadium. Some cheerleaders, flaggers and band members also wait.

Shorecrest theme is the Scots; the band as well as the dancers march and perform in traditional kilts. Naomi (in the foreground) is the senior captain of the Lassies so she leads them onto the field. They've also gone as the "Lassies" but, currently there are two male members so they are the "Lassie and Laddies" Curtis, also a senior is third one down. You can see the other tall young man, don't remember his name. Those socks cost $175 and had to be ordered directly from Ireland. Naomi joined the Lassies as a freshman (by tryout) so she's gotten some use from them. They wear the traditional kilt and blouses made by somebody.

Once, Naomi was criticizing the cheerleaders and the flagger for their short skirted uniform. I said, half in jest, why don't the lassies do that? She immediately answered "Karen (their long time teacher) would NEVER EVER go for that"

The Lassies have been an excellent activity for Naomi, has really given her a role and a focus throughout high school.
