Photoessay #476 - Auction

Bidding at the Parent Group Auction last weekend. I guess the fashionable term is 'Gala' this year. So it was a gala. Parent Group runs just about entirely with volunteers. There's one half-time Executive Director. We never charge anybody for anything. We pass around a box at the meeting and the suggested donation is $5 to pay the room rent, coffee, paper napkins, copying, etc. If you can. Lots of people will help you. All we ask is that you help somebody else when you are not in crisis. I tell people, this is not a money group, it's a time group.

But we have a fundraiser every year, most years anyway. Here people are bidding on a live auction item, I think it was a week at a nice vacation house in eastern Washington. The auctioneer's wife bought it. I didn't really get anything from the tables. We did a $150 donation. Plus we paid a third of one of the big items, $925 for the Orozco Mexican Dinner.

Just got back from the Kol Nidre service. Naomi and Ilana wanted to go, so we did. You can go to Kadima without being a 'member'. I gave a generous donation there also.

All this would be fine if the stock market would STOP CRASHING!!!

In case anybody's interested, the Kol Nidre is an ancient prayer, the most powerful liturgical event in the Jewish year....I may write about it tomorrow
