My husband and I (just us) are on a 4 night vacation to BC. Two nights in Whistler, two nights in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast.
Took us a lot longer to get to Whistler, every inch of that highway is under construction in preparation for the 2010 winter olympics. Endless road construction. Very nice B&B Golden Dreams, I recommend it. The place was CRAWLING with mountain bikers, zillions and zillions of them. Turns out that Whistler has really developed mountain biking in the summer. They have a lift running just for the mountain bikers with special attachments for mountain bikes. They go down a big hill above the Village. You watch the lift, one for 4 people, next the 4 bikes. All day. Plus, at least half of the gondola cars are filled with people with this bikes tipped. Not only that, we were there during Crankworx, which apparently is one of the biggest mountain biking events in the world. I mean, there were mountain bikers everywhere.
Dennis and I did not like Whistler Village, kind of looked like an adult disneyland, so developed. But, it did seem functional so maybe it worked well as a community once you got used to it. One thing that confused us was that the different maps had various orientations, north was usually not up so we were often disoriented and confused. But beautiful, beautiful scenery, we went on the gondola, I even made it on a challenging walk to a chair lift and we went to the top of the mountain on the lift. 7160 feet. Breaktaking, we walked around, came back down, quite a challenging walk back to the gondola. But I made it!
Here's a hint... have dinner at the tennis club. Keeps you away from the Village madness. Very pleasant outside dining, reasonably priced, quiet, very very nice. We like it so well, we went back there the next night.
