Photoessay #448 - Football

Today, we participated in Cougar Day. Washington State University plays their first football game of the season here in Seattle (WSU is located in Pullman on the other side of the state, a long way away) in Seahawk Stadium. An opportunity for the 'westside' Wazzou folks to be able to attend without traveling across the mountains to the Palouse. Playing Oklahoma State who wear brilliant bright orange.

Naomi is considering applying to Washington State. We visited there last summer. Liked it! Wheat fields! The admissions folks offered a special deal; they put together an academic fair in the exhibit space plus you could get half price tickets to the football game. Why not? We've never been to Qwest Field (Seahawk Stadium) so maybe we should go. Naomi was willing and Dennis (to my surprise) agreed to go. So $11 gets you in. I buy the tickets online.

We take the bus from the Northgate Transit Center. Several crimson-clad WSU people on the bus. After a few false starts, we get off at the right stop and it's not such a bad walk to the stadium. We talk to the admissions people and to a very helpful guy from the School of Education. Pick up our tickets no problem. We can go directly into the stadium. Easy! Buy an overpriced group of hamburgers and start our way up the ramps. And up and up and up. I suspected these discounted tickets might be in nosebleed. Yup.

Picture is the view from our seats about an hour before gametime. Camera runs out of battery. By gametime, the stadium has filled up quite a bit, that large bottom part was completely full.

Unfortunately, WSU didn't play too well. I thought that Dennis would last the first quarter, we actually stayed for the entire first half. WSU losing 15-0 when we left. Final score: 39-13

But we can say that we've been. Saw a lot of crimson and silver. Naomi seems positive about WSU. She knows what she has to do.
