Photoessay #434 - Golf Course Maintenance

Susanna demonstrates green maintenance at Broadmoor Golf Course on Friday. We got a small look-around this extremely exclusive golf club. She's showing us at least 4 different mowing heights of grass. I can't remember all the names of the areas. Even notice around the edge of the green there are two rows of mowing at slightly different heights. All of the grass on the course proper gets mowed every day. This way on Monday, etc. I had never seen grass like that on the green, it looked like felt. But then, I have not been on too many golf courses. She likes working there a lot, she's gotten a lot of training on premier golf course maintenance, she gets to be outside which she enjoys. A summer maintenance staff of 30, they keep some seasonal people all year. maybe she will stay.

Apparently there are two turtles that live in the fountain, they migrate from the fountain to the lake and back again. They like to sunbathe on the fairways some times. Susanna and the other maintenance folks watch out for the turtles and move them if they think they will get bonked by a golf ball or run over by a cart. Don't know if the the club members take the time to pay attention to the turtles (named Henry and Clark). Don't have pictures, maybe next time.
