Photoessay #432 - Hartleys at Harstene Island

Just got back from an all day event at the Hartley cabin on Harstene Island, whew it takes a long time to get there and back. The event was in honor of the 100th birthday of Herbert Hartley. Grandma Anne is the eldest of his seven children, ranging down to Eliza 19 years later. Six of them attended today; Dean passed away in an auto accident some years ago.

Eliza (the youngest) and her husband hosted the dinner with oyster stew, salmon and general potluck. The toast featured a plum wine that Herbert himself made 30 years ago; Eliza kept it. The wine was, um vinegary and had some sediment. Not aged well. But did the trick, I even had a sip.

Very pleasant time, lots of pictures and some stories. At the end we took a group picture. Ok, my camera was at an angle on a garbage can lid and though, I could see that, I didn't get that everything would be crooked. So this picture is rotated 4 degrees. Six of Herbert's children are here as well as grandchildren, nephews, great grandchildren and general spouses. I am also in the picture, you can tell that I am not genetically related!
