Photoessay #413 - Jimmy's pitching

Canada Cup's Special Olympics Friendship Division, a concurrently run slowpitch tournament can provide some of the best Canada Cup moments. The main event, the international women's fastpitch tournament, including many Olympic teams, takes place on the main fields. Some younger divisions also play at the main venue and several other facilities in Surrey (including the rural Cloverdale which Dennis and I both enjoyed).

Gin and I went up for a second day for Elimination Saturday. We watched Washington Absolute Blast lose to Oregon Elite, left just as Australia started playing Venezuela, and returned for part of the Chinese Taipei game. The biggest game, the winner bracket game Japan vs Canada, took place after we left. But I always stop by to watch the Friendship Division games played with great heart and enthusiasm. These games have the same umpires, attention, PA system, etc as the main tournament. Not always a lot of spectators, but fervently played and noticed by all the attendees.

Here, Jimmy's pitching his heart out for the Surrey Storm right next to the main venue.
