Photoessay #141 - Thinking about Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday! For the last several (actually many) years, I have hosted two separate Thanksgivings. One for the usual crowd including Dennis' parents and the Garrisons. The other for Dennis' birthfamily off the 'day'. Various reasons pro and con. Dennis' birthfamily wanted a gathering of their own and my house was always nominated. Dennis' mother couldn't deal with his birthfamily. But, more and more, there really isn't a compelling reason to have two separate events. Except that there would likely be too many people and maybe Dave and Lureen have to go to Lureen's family. We could put a second table up in the living room. Just do it as one big affair.

I don't really mind doing it twice. No problem cooking two big turkeys, more stuffing, more mashed potatoes. Others bring the rest. Have some turkey plates and napkins and decorations with autumn leaves. I admit, I have a secret desire to have a real floral centerpiece some year. But I have a wicker cornucopia (from a long ago garage sale) and it's easy to fill it up with fruits and vegetables and it makes a beautiful centerpiece. In fact, I bought a huge turkey platter last year at another garage sale which I can use. Silver candlesticks, good dishes, lots of serving dishes, really I have it nailed.

Picture is from the Hartley-Kneip edition last year (with some extras) held the Sunday before Thanksgiving last year. You can see that when you get much above 12, you've exhausted the capacity of my dining room.
