Photoessay #62 - Shadow, my babypie

I've been using my husband's reasonably fancy digital camera to take pictures but he wants to have it fixed. My mother in law is letting me use her digital camera for the interim and I'm seeing how it works. Wow, I can see the difference in quality already. But I want to give this a chance. For my purposes, this might be ok.

So today, I will feature the picture of my old dog Shadow. Shadow has always had her specialties, she's very good at being big and being lovey. She also has many annoying old dog problems. She's maybe 13 years old and her breed is whatever that is, well SOMEBODY was big...and probably a german shepherd. Or something. Always very gentle, her idea of a good time has always been to sleep on the couch. She does enjoy a walk and will be after me to take her around the block. She has always preferred her walk to her dinner. Not a big retriever, or anything else either. She likes to be at home with her people.

Earlier in her life, she was over 100 pounds, but now weighs 60. She's lost quite a bit of hair around her hips but she's still a champion shedder. She gets me up at night to let her out.

Shadow has always felt that I was here to protect her not the other way around. She will announce if somebody comes by but will hide behind me at every opportunity. But she's gentle and lovey, wants to be with people. Earlier she was afraid of men .... and brooms. I think that some men must have beat her with a broom when she was a puppy. But mostly she likes everybody including kids.

But still I love having a dog. She's my babypie. Even if she has old age behavior lapses like chewing up boxes of brownie mix and pasta. She's still my babypie.

Glad to hear that dog is still around and making life good for herself and family.

I am sure she is only "kid" left that wants to be "baby"!
