Photoessay #40 - Help for the homesick

This colorful jumbled group of stuffed animals belong to Naomi (17) and Susanna (22). Their sister Ilana (20) was intending to donate her stuffed animals to the camp to use for homesick Brownies. A stuffed animal is in every unit box. When a Brownie is upset in the middle of the night missing her mommy, the counselor can give her a soft friend to hug and is hers to keep for her very own. Which means, you've got to have a bunch of them.

When Ilana came home, she found that she didn't have her stuffed animals any more, she must have already given them away. The sisters come to the rescue, they each have their own childhood stash of plush. They don't have much use for them any more. Susanna gave her permission from Eugene so all of the bunnies, duckies, doggies and teddies got loaded into the back of the van to be taken up to camp.

Kind of a rite of passage. Look at all those acrylic friends. I was especially attached to the large plush dog and her puppies. Actually hadn't seen them recently, having been buried under piles of junk in Naomi's room for years. Ilana points out that it helps that nobody at camp is emotionally attached to these toys, that way if the camper throws the teddy bear into the lake or spills maple syrup on it, nobody is going to be upset.
