ASRG picnic

ASRG (Access Student Resource Group) is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) for Access Students at the University of Washington.  The Access Student program allows any resident over the age of 60 to attend almost any class at the university.  Some of us really like doing it; I've been doing it since 2012.  I helped form this group seven years ago and I've been the Chair most of that time.  But now, two other people are the Chair.  Yay!

We put on the picnic every year.  Very easy and it always works.  The Resource Office at the student union has canopies, tables, chairs, paper for signs.  Student organization can borrow these materials to set up booths so they can let people know about their organization.  We can too!  So, on a summer day, we get a canopy and tables and chairs.  We take them on their carts to the HUB lawn just outside.  Nice trees for shade.  We set up them up.  We send out some notices announcing it.  Everybody bring their own lunch and come on down.  Takes no other setup work.  Dennis comes to help and have quite a few men that come and everybody helps.

And people come, maybe 15-20.  We just sit and visit and have a gay old time.  Very relaxing.  Very accessible.  We do have some people in wheelchairs and one needed help getting to that part of the lawn.  Dennis took care of it.  Supposedly it's an hour.  But the last few days, it's been more like two hours.

Then we take everything down and bring it back to the Resource Office very close by.  Easy Peasey.
