Paved in Sapphire Stones

Yesterday Dennis and I went to temple; it was my mother's yahrzeit (anniversary of her death).  I had already made a contribution.  We knew it would be smaller because b'nei mitzvah was scheduled.  The cantor had just quit and the senior rabbit was in Israel.  So much talent in that congregation, I knew it would be fine.

I ran into Ronnie who I knew who kind of runs the place.  I had forgotten that when you talk to Ronnie before the service, likely you will have a part assigned to you.  He asked me to read the English of the torah portion.  I agreed,  From Exodus.  Moses gets ready and goes up to Mount Sinai.  There's a reference to the road being paved with sapphire stones.  I never heard of that, neither had Ronnie.

I looked through the Biblical websites looking for pictures of artwork of the sapphire stones, could hardly find any, this is as close as I get.  Much Jewish commentary that they weren't really sapphire stones because of  this and that.

I love the imagery though.

Nice lunch afterwards.
