1961 Ginsburgh living room
The living room of Claire and Allen Ginsburgh (my parents) in 1961 in Arden Park in Sacramento. I think this was after the furniture was re-upholstered to bring it up to date. And new fancy carpet too.
In 1964 my parents will move across Fair Oaks Blvd to a swankier neighborhood and a bigger house with all new living room furniture (with an interior decorator as well).
But this was the new fancy furniture then. My father must have thought it important enough to take a picture.
The only piece that's survived is the coffee table on the left. It's a solid piece of furniture and now lives in Naomi's apartment. You can see the old refrigerator in the kitchen in the background. I think the divider was new and meant to 'update' the entry. I think the cupboard was for card tables.
My parents had bridge (and other parties) a lot. And went to them. Different than us.
The colors of the upholstered furniture were a little au courant. The deep purple of the sofa, the muted orange stripes on the chair. The chair in the right foreground was forest green. I kind of liked the colors. Still do.
I toured this house about 25 years ago in 1995 and it was much updated. Young one income families could afford these somewhat modest houses. I probably could not purchase one today
