I am in a demography class and have been encouraged to take the lab. I did not produce the picture above but I did make one kinda like this though it's, um, unavailable or somewhere.
As usual, I stagger out of the lab overwhelmed, my mouth agape probably drooling. The lab is set in a room of computers. They do these exercises at warp speed. Do this, click on the little circle on the top, select attributes, apply them to this part of the map. They go so fast the if you miss one step (and I usually do not understand what I'm doing) you are lost because you will not be able to catch up when it comes around on the guitar. Because it won't.
So I (figuratively) have wrapped my hands around the shirt-tails of the student next to me, begging for help. You're supposed to do what next? Which one? Where's the download button? Why did the whole screen disappear? And everytime, there's been a patient (male) student who quietly tells me what I should do next. I'm concentrating so hard on what the TAs are calling out and my neighbor's instruction, I'm just exhausted. But I'm trying so hard to keep up. I'm not supposed to take up the TAs times but I do. I'm not doing so bad this time; with substantial assistance I'm only a half step behind.
Eventually, somehow, I come up with the map that we're supposed to generate. It looks kinda like it anyway. Actually I did take a screenshot which I was supposed to submit (but didn't) And I mailed a copy to myself which did not arrive when I get home. So I have nothing.
Maybe I need a more basic class...
