Anne Sedgewick Hartley display

Yesterday was Grandma Anne's memorial.  Always so glad to get that done; somehow it leaves things with a little more closure.  Dennis had handled (continuing) the estate, money, health and care issues for those last many months.  His brother and sister-in-law who live in Des Moines (WA) handled the memorial.  And they did a bang-up fabulous job.  The display table pictured above.  Loreen made the tri-fold display.  They brought items and we brought items including Krystal bringing Anne's flute.  But she thought of the table cloth and the flowers, had it all figured out.  A funny aside; Loreen brought that jewelry display shaped like tree branches with Anne's new age taste in jewelry.  In the last month or so of her life, Anne lost her glasses.  Dennis searched for them many many times, never found them.  Turns out they were in plain sight on the jewelry display (they're still there.)

Anne had been a member of the choir and played her flute at the church.  When she died, it must be customary, when a choir member passes, the whole choir and the piano player (and two flutists) come and do a special performance at their memorial.  It's what they do.  They were all there bidding her godspeed.  Very sweet and moving.

About 75 people there.  It had been rescheduled twice due to snow.

Many relatives there and, after 32 years, I knew them. Though Anne was the eldest of 7, there are only seven cousins.  But Dennis has enjoyed getting to know his cousins.  They were all there, though some came from California.  Many thanks to his cousin Lawrence who helped Dennis with advice about care and finances during the last six months.

Afterwards, Dave and Loreen had a reception at their small house.  They had it all set up that everyone was comfortable plus the weather was beautiful.

Thank you to my daughter in law Megan who took the pictures.

Too bad, Anne was one of my most avid blog readers.  She would have enjoyed this entry and written me a positive comment.
