I continue to work on this fundraising fair paper but it's slow going.  I need a graduate advisor!  The last time around I emphasized influence from San Francisco but even I am not too sure about that.  Now I was thinking of comparing them to two sister Jewish groups.  Does this add to our understanding?  Whew, I don't know.  The women who put these on these elaborate affairs were very young, that's the main difference.

I also do not have the first three volumes of the minutes; that makes a lot of difference.

But, working on it led me to an account of a costume ball put on my the predecessor congregation.  Though they built a synagogue, they didn't last too long.  The core of that congregation reorganized as Temple De Hirsch in 1899

Here are the best costume prizes from the January 8 1893 Ohaven Sholum costume ball

Princess Angelina

"Chasing a cat when aroused from sleep"

Seattle 12 years ago painted pictures of Chief Seattle, Princess Angeline and old backwoods Seattle scenes.  Her head dress was of fir cones.

Mount Rainier she was enveloped in a frame work modeled on the shape of the mountain and surrounding scenery

Can you imagine how young this community was when you could pick a theme just 12 years prior (that would be 1881) and the city would be mainly backwoods.  Even before the 1889 fire.  Twelve years is not a long time.
