I went to the Putget Sound Archives part of the Washington State Archives on the grounds of Bellevue College. About 30 miles away. But I wanted a decent picture of Settlement House built 1916 by the Council of Jewish Women. Sold in 1956 to the featured Wonder Bread Bakery. I think the sale was controversial as the neighbrhood had become lots less Jewish and lots more African American. By that time, a local community council was running the programs in the then named Neighborhood House. The Council of Jewish Women rented the building to the for $1/year. The idea was that at the end of the lease, the Council would consider turning it over to the community board. However the Council had other projects in mind and the building was their biggest asset. So instead, they sold it to the Wonder Bakery next door.
The people out at the archives were very friendly and helpful. As I was just leaving, the archivist said, "Why not take a picture of the bakery, it's so wonderful!" So I did and when I got home, I've got to believe she's right. Love the tower and the sign. Love the old style delivery trucks.
The picture of Settlement House, maybe called "Educational Center" then not so great but I will likely post it.
