My daughter Susanna has just completed the class portion of her Occupational Therapy Masters at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Two semesters of field work left. She made it through five semesters straight at this southern school.
She said to me last time she was here..."Mom, who would have thought that I would get a masters?" I replied "why not you?"
But it was a big risk to go to Birmingham Alabama and make it work. I never imagined her going to the deep south as a minority kid. But, even before she left, my husband said, she'll change Birmingham herself. And maybe she has.
But she's finished the classroom part and now it's time for the group to scatter. Mostly young Alabama women. And a couple of ringers.
Congratulations!
And congratulations to my daughter Naomi who received her diploma from Central Washington University yesterday.
