The Pigeon books by Mo Willems.
Naomi bought one at the toy store where she works. So cute and funny!
The drawing is intentionally very simple. The intersection between the illustrations and the dialogue rings so true.
The pigeon just wants to have some fun, usually doing things that she's not supposed to do. She tries to convince you "I'll be careful!" or "my mom would let me."
In this case, the pigeon tries to convince us to let her drive the bus. "C'mon! Just once around the block!"
You can hear the pre-schoolers howl "Noooooo!" I guess it helps internalizes some of the limits that the world puts around them. (sigh)
Like Susanna's video from earlier this week, even though art can have simple components, it takes a talented hard-working individual to make it come together.

Mo Willems is one of my absolute favorites. He has this other book (not a series, but there are two of them) called Knufflebunny, it's a mixture of photographs with color drawings inserted, it's so creative.
He also has a mid-level series called Pig and Elephant that is adorable and hilarious.
The guy is super talented.
