Hmm....I thought that if a disabled student called about access to a campus building, they would know something about it.
Then Matthew S wrote comming on my post yesterday:
Anderson has a big beautiful wooden staircase and no elevator. If the room is on the first floor, you only have the entrance steps to combat, and you might be able to thwart those too by the side entrance. But it is one of the least accessible buildings on campus. I had a class scheduled to be in Anderson and then they moved it less than a week before it started because a handicapped student switched into the class.I really think I saw a picture of that staircase, it was dramatic, now can't find it.
Really, they would swtich the class if a disabled student signed up? What about a disabled Access student?
So I called disabilities again and this time they paid attention. They sent me a form to fill out and if the room was inaccessible, they would switch the room. A class with 150 people in it? To where? A major UWclassroom which was not accessible?
I'm filling out the form. They ask that you really go and look at it before turning it in. Fair enough.
Maybe there was some other solution. I can climb the stairs, I just can't carry up my roller bag. Maybe if there was some secure place to leave my bag, that would work.
Since Dennis is working from home today, I'm thinking of going into campus early and trudge around. Also some library stuff.
A picture of Andersonn 223 where the class is scheduled. Actually I like it a lot.
