Congratulations to Janine and Matt on their Valentines Day engagement.I can see that I have reached that time in the life course when my children and children of my friends get married.
Yes, young people still get married as young adults.
The stakes and expectations seem so much higher than they did 36 years ago. Events that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Some families can't do that. Some families don't want to do that. None of us need more debt.
I think the weddings that I know of are not running into that difficulty. But some are uncomfortably close. So I'm now looking at weddings in March, July, September and beyond.
But there are creative ideae around. And they don't include pot lucks. No honey, we're getting a caterer. That's their day job. I know a young woman did get married recently. She had seen the fancy weddings, wanted that. But instead they did it at a public park and the families did the food, 65 guests, very modest.. She says nos\w "it was perfect, I would not have had it any other way!"
