Mary Ann had an old box of pictures in her basement that she had cleaned out of my grandparent's basement. Just needed somebody there for moral support to look through them; I think she was waiting for Charlie. Turned out to be dozens and dozens of individual pictures taken in Germany, New Jersey and New Haven. From our grandfather's mother's family, the Lederers. Maybe half of the the pictures had names on the back. And some were, rather unfortunate to look at.
Nary Ann and I are not too up on the Lederers and even with the names, we're vague of who they are are and where they fit in.
But, we have this third cousin, Sue, who is really into the Lederers, done a ton of work on the large Lederer family from New Brunswick New Jersey. So, immediately it became clear that all of these pictures should go to Sue. Yes, yes, a good home, she will love getting them! They will keep her busy and entertained for weeks. I suggested a shoebox. Yes, yes, Mary Ann fetches one and the plan is hatched.
She's sending me a special picture, of our grandfather as a young child with his younger sister. Originally I thought maybe I could carry it on the plane with me; I brought an extra big suitcase. No, wouldn't work. Mary Ann called me today; she was shipping the picture so I assume she's sending these pictures to Sue.
I arrayed them on the table for a picture. Keep in mind this pile was four or five pictures deep. But they're going to a good home.
