Today we had a lot of fun with Melina. First, with Danny, we went to the letterboxing picnic in a park near Snohomish. So much everything that we only used a small portion of all of the HIPS (Hidden in Plain Site) letterboxes. Tons of food but mainly people stamping stamping. Later we hit the trails looking for some conventional boxes.
Then back to civilization, where Melina and I were dropped off at Gin's where we went downtown to Safeco Field to watch the Nationa Pro Fastpitch All Stars play the University of Washington softball team. Pitcher's duel. 1-0 win for NPF. Pretty boring but some great pitching. Susanna and Megan came and hung out some more with Melina.
Then home (remember Naomi's here), Melina hanging out with Naomi and we went out for mexican food on a coupon.
Pretty busy.
But let's really get down to what letterboxing is all about. Wandering around some overground trail in the woods somewhere in the rain trying to figure out which 'y' in the trail this is and is it this rotting stump here or this one over here? Does this tree have 8 trunks or nine. Is it this pile of rotting leaves? Does this look right at ALL? What trail? Am I really going to stick my hand down THERE?
Letterboxing in Western Washington is all about the rotting stumps. In California the preponderance is SPOR (Suspicious Pile OF Rocks). But here, there's almost always some rotting stump or behind some roots or underneath some log. Hey, I hide them there myself!
Picture shows my son Danny and his daughter Melina letterboxing on a trail in Willis Tucker County Park south of Snohomish earlier today. They look like they're having some fun!
Really, it's a great hobby, honest!
