Photoessay #1441 - Sandy 1971
I attended a peace march in San Francisco in spring 1971. Turned out to be a frightening experience as things got violent. I have vivid memories of the swat team's dispersing the crowd by chasing protesters hitting people. I saw a mob of people running towards me. My first inclination was to duck inside a doorway. One person I was with grabbed my hand and commanded "RUN!" And so we did down into Chinatown.
But that event was in the future in this shot. There I am 19 years old (maybe not even) My eyes are closed but my body language shows that I'm coming into the adult world ready for some excitement.
