This HAS been a long day!
Last you heard from me, we were about to leave for Ueno Station in the pouring rain. Even slush on the sidewalks.
We were not prepared for the immensity and complexity of the place. Of course, just about all of the signage is in Japanese and every time you look around there's another turn or escalator and you are in a new huge grand concourse. We had some clues about where were were going. Mostly we wandered sort of getting the idea of where we should go. Luckily we had left early but we still were not sure, we went down and down. Finally we confronted this sign which did hold the key to where we were going. I blindly showed my ticket to the guy with a uniform who looked like he would know. He pointed very authoritatively to one spot "Here!" I report this back to Dennis. Slowly it's dawning on us that people were not standing in random places. Dennis considers that maybe the people between the red lines are going onto the next train and the people between the green lines are for the NEXT train and then they slide over. Also, we realize that the reason that the station guy showed us that *ONE* spot is because that spot said "12" and our ticket says "12" which means car 12 which just might mean something since it's a reserved seat.
So we were a bit traumatized by the huge Ueno station but we did get on the right train.
