Photoessay #930 - Xmas Eve and the damage done

How can I write a blog post on Dec 24 and not mention Christmas Eve? It suffuses into everything. I did find that people and the dogs at my dog park were On Edge. Dog fights, crabby people. Some of the regulars but some unfamiliar people. People whispering to themselves and to their dogs, don't bother that guy.

The local supermarket was crowded. Some scuffling and general rudeness. Several times I got hit by people in carts. But, nice weather and I eventually got what I wanted and was able to return home.

I did run into somebody I knew at the grocery store. She used to participate in Parent Group concerned about her then 15 year old daughter, drug-involved with risky behaviors. Now the daughter is heavily addicted to heroin with all of the chaos and destruction that goes along with that lifestyle. In and out of detox and treatment. So difficult for family members to come into some sort of state of grace in this situation. She mentioned that she hardly recognizes her daughter any more. So much heartbreak.

Two references.... From Alanon....You didn't cause it, you can't cure it, you can't control it..... and

The Neil Young song "Needle and the Damage Done"

I've seen the needle
and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's
like a settin' sun.
