My kids have attended Shorecrest since 1996, that's a plenty long run. A neighborhood school, if you live on this side of the freeway, you go to Shorecrest. I've experienced many sides, the varsity athletics, drug-using non-attenders, literary alternative. And now a Highland Dancer, why not? of course, I had paid no attention to the Highland Dancers (the Lassies) before so somehow it was fitting. Been great for Naomi.
In my area, the small cities incorporated around the school district. The main motivation for this area not to be annexed to Seattle was the fear of the loss of the school district. Two high schools, pretty mixed ethnically and socioeconomically. Shorecrest has Scottish mascots, the Highlanders, the bagpipes, the dancers, the band marches in full kilt. Why, I ask, in an area so rich with Pacific rim and Native American themese would you have a Scottish theme? Must have seemed like a good idea at the time in 1963, when the school opened. Naomi is going on the band trip to Ireland in just a few weeks.
