Photoessay #270 - E is for Estuary

I looked up 'estuary' and it's really supposed to be part of coastal water. This misty scene unfolded on the Bothell Slough, part of the Sammamish River which runs between Lake Sammamish and Lake Washington. Lake Washington is connected to Puget Sound through the Ship Canal....so the Bothell Slough could maybe be an estuary...ok I'm pushing it here

Bothell Landing this morning around 9am. I accompanied my youngest daughter on her quest to pass the driver's license written test. She's over 18 so technically I don't have to go with. The driver license place in a strip mall borders on Bothell Landing Park. Even though we got there by 8:50 am, the wait was long and the attempt unsuccessful. She's over there again right now in the late afternoon.

I've taken many local pictures with my camera in the last few weeks especially to feature in my Lake Forest Park daily photo blog. It's February and these places will look completely different in summertime.

Big on birds here. Seagulls circling in the misty morning looking for breakfast in the quiet flowing river. Check out the swimming duck (maybe more than one) in the lower left and center. I could see quite a few ducks nesting underneath the dirt overhang on the far side of the slough. Peaceful and chilly on the slough in late winter.

I took my sons and my daughter to that very same liscensing office. My home is in Washington but I'm living in Southern California with my husband right now because of his job. I know Bothell landing well. When in Washington I walk every Saturday on the Burke Gilman from Log Boom Park to Bothell Landing. Nice to meet someone from the place I love...

Lovely peaceful photo - good choice, even if you're right and it's not strictly an estuary!

This is a beautiful picture. I love the red captured in the "bush"? on the right. Lovely. It's funny to see the beauty in something that looks so familiar and like home, which I associate with cold and dreary.
