Today, Naomi, Dennis and I picked up our 7 year old granddaughter Melina and took her on a trip to Whidbey Island. We had heard that Melina had never been on a ferry boat and, well, that experience is easily accessible! We went to Langley to visit Grandma Ann and to have lunch at the Pizza place in downtown Langley.
Very successful all around. Especially with Naomi who can bring out Melina like nobody else. She has talent that she doesn't recognize! Likely Melina might not speak to us at all but Naomi soon has her chattering away. She loves to accompany Naomi on all the activities. She was very interested in the ferry boat, astounded that we were going to DRIVE ON. Also quite a bumpy ride with lots of white caps. Pretty short ride but we still had time to play the M&M game.
Just a short ride off the ferry to the picturesque town of Langley. Melina chattered away about going to Langley, going to Langley. We arrived at the little pizza place, met up with Grandma Ann, watched the cook THROW the pizza. Melina was not as enthusiastic about the actual pizza but drank plenty of pop. Afterwards we walked down to the beach and the sun came out, hurrah! Best part of the trip, Melina and Naomi walked all along the beach (low tide) finding lots of shells and generally having a grand time (pictured). The end of the trip featured the sheep behind Grandma Ann's house and some herons on the wetland.
Involved a lot of driving as we had to pick up and bring back Melina to her other grandparent's house in Redmond. Fun and tiring!
