My brother loves to work with stained glass. He has set up a mini stained glass workshop in his apartment that he shares with his two cats, Bogart and Bacall. Years ago, he made me a stained glass bird, my mother has a beautiful aqua round composition in her window and he recently completed a santa-oriented piece for my sister. I will feature them in another post.
Last week, when we were in Rockford, I went with my siblings to a local stained glass supply shop. He can get glass from some shops near his home in the south suburbs of Chicago....but he likes this place. It makes a nice excursion away from my mother's house. He delights in the colors, textures and possibilities. Me too! So much art glass, bold colors, mottled surfaces, swirls and sharp patterns. My sister enjoys herself also looking atthe glass. Generally, he buys glass for some part of a piece that he has in mind. But sometimes, he sees a piece of glass so beautiful that surely he will find a use for. Check out the large blue green variegated piece on the light table that he's decided to purchase. Blues, ultramarine, aqua, royal. Yes, azure, all mixed together in a horizontal pattern. The top pattern reminds me of dawn, the lower of an alpine lake.
A million ideas come to mind for him of things to create. These square panes launch him into a space of color, texture and composition just waiting to be discovered.
