It's time to look over the events of the year. I know that right before New Years, I get together with my friend Mary Ann and we review the events of the year, specifically regarding our families. Mary Ann has a pocket calendar and every year, on that last day, we write down what everybody is doing and the main issues. Then the next year, Mary Ann digs out her calendar and we see how things have changed. What WAS going on this time last year? One year, Mary Ann brought a bunch of her old calendars and we wondered at how much was the same yet many things had changed. For ourselves and for our various wayward children.
This post illustrates the phenomenon of writing and blogging. I sat down to write about one thing and am ending somewhere completely different. I do intend to write about events of the year, notably some significant losses of parents and loved ones. I'm pleased with my short Lanaya series and want to continue. I want to revisit the Beittel Memorial. Thinking about the year comes to mind images from the past of important people. The slide collection featured on the Ginsburgh Pixs blog is a wealth of source material. Yet visits (ie the Sacramento memoir trip) may yield less than you expect.
I resolve to learn to use our scanner so I can feature our typically disorganized over kid-centric photographs. Right now, Dennis insists that only he can use it and he's always too busy to scan things. Just a little power struggle.
This year, I will take a photo of the meeting of Mary Ann and myself's review of the year. So with the idea of reflection, I will feature a photo from this summer of Mary Ann. We were chatting and I mentioned that I planned to go up to Canada Cup for the day in BC? You want to come? At first, she demurred, softball? no thanks! But then I told her about White Rock and the broad sandy beach full of Canadians on holiday, the huge slabs of fish and chips and all of the international teams and camaraderie of the Canada Cup tournament. Just for the day. On impulse, she decided to come with me and we had a great time. Watching softball and enjoying the seashore at White Rock. Photo taken at Softball City.

Isn't it interesting the things we say we will do later in life, and the things we say we won't do . . . .
Mom is doing things she swore she would never do. I catch my self saying things to my daughter and then going .. . . .
"That's what MY Mom use to say!"
Age is only something you kinda get . . . .when you get there!
