Last night, Ilana went contra-dancing with her high school and college friends Erynn, Marie and Lillian. Erynn took some pictures. Ilana first went contra-dancing with me at Folklife. I took her and Janine down and did my annual dance. They were 17 and were shocked, SHOCKED that I would
a. dance
b. with a strange man
What the heck, I told them, this is the middle of the afternoon contra-dance at Folklife, find a partner and dance, it's ok, it's fun! So they did. I have to admit that it was a lot easier for them to locate a partner than myself (overweight 50+, etc). That day, the girls agreed that the contra-dancing had been the highlight of the day.
Ilana says one reason that she likes contra-dancing is that you always have a partner. She's having a good time in this picture, even dressed up a little, though she is wearing her sister's petticoat and her red tennies.
