Photoessay #64 - Dear to my heart
In my life, I have been blessed with some people very dear to me. This photo features my husband and myself with these folks in a picture taken in May when we went to visit. This couple are long time friends of my parents but early in my life, they became long time friends of MINE. I met them in my childhood. My mother was a girl scout friend and the families started doing activities together when they moved to the Bay Area around 1960. I have always admired them greatly, in fact I named my two oldest children after them and didn't even realize it until years later. No coincidence, I think.
They have always treated me with utmost respect and generosity. They have always welcomed me into their home and I love to visit. Throughout my life, I have been interested in their ideas and activities. I have refer to their children as my cousins. I listen carefully to their counsel and welcome all of their family. Their daughter recently wrote that they consider me as their niece, that's true, they have been aunt and uncle to me throughout my life.
I would do anything to help them.
Now one is faced with a very serious health issue, one of those conditions where your longevity is seriously threatened. All of us, especially those over 80 years old, will face this situation. I know it's inevitable. Still, my fervent wish is that they should stay well. But I will keep in touch, close touch over the next several months. My pleasure.
It's the least I can do for people who have given so much to me.
PS Happy 53rd birthday to my brother!!!!
